Review of an Interesting/Moving Idea

The other day, not so long ago, I heard Eric Whitacre (composer/conductor) talking about his virtual choir project. He was specifically talking about his newest release with the project, Waternight. Essentially, for those of you who are not yet aware of this genius, Whitacre records himself conducting and posts the video along with sheet music for other YouTubers to reply to with videos of themselves singing the piece. He then gets together with what must be a gang of tech gurus and remasters/mixes the numerous separate tracks into a single “virtual choir.” The result is just lovely. I will link the videos at the end of the post. My thought beyond just informing you all of this creative project is that I believe this unique medium might be applied to more than just choirs, more than just music, but perhaps to more pursuits which unify humans in a single aim. For those of you who know me, you know I speak of theatre. I know that some will say that acting is reacting and you can’t take interaction out of the equation or you just have a recitation, but wouldn’t it be interesting just to put it to the test? I am unsure how I will proceed with this idea, but I do plan to proceed in some form or fashion. More to come soon.
